This learning area aims to develop skills in children which will enable them to critically reflect upon their own and other people's designed and made products, processes and systems.
Through being actively involved in 'designing and making', children learn to identify and critique the intentions, design, manufacture and consequences of any technology. They learn to respond to the needs of diverse cultures in relation to developing technologies. By engaging in the program, children learn a broad range of design skills to creatively solve problems posed in design briefs as well as techniques for manipulating materials to create products.
Children use the language of Design and Technology to communicate their thinking, ideas, and plans for products, processes and systems. They use a variety of tools to engage in learning and sharing their understandings.
